Introducing the People Behind FireRoots!
Anna Zhao
President (2026-2027)
As someone who has experienced firsthand the challenges of wildfire smoke, Anna understands the importance of protecting both people and forests from wildfires exacerbated by climate change. Through FireRoots, Anna hopes to get involved with hands-on volunteering and advocacy, helping protect forests and in turn, the people who depend on them.
Amy Li
Co-President (2026-2027)
A self-proclaimed rock licker and chemical sniffer (strictly for academic purposes), Amy is a rising junior at Lynbrook High School. After spending two summers building BDAs and learning about wildfire prevention and residential fire safety, she developed a passion for educating others and raising awareness. She is excited to continue that work through FireRoots! Outside the organization, Amy enjoys listening to music, reading sci-fi novels, and playing the violin.
William Chan
Volunteer Director (2026-2027)
William Chan is a rising senior at Gunn High School who loves spending time outdoors and exploring new ways to solve real-world problems. Growing up in California, where wildfires have become an increasingly common threat, inspired him to use his interests in coding and mathematics to research wildfire behavior and improve wildfire monitoring, including tracking smoke diffusion and identifying fire sources. Through FireRoots, he hopes to help make communities safer through research, education, and outreach. Outside of FireRoots, he enjoys playing music, juggling, and playing table tennis.
